Joan S. and Peter R. Weill Endowed Fund Distributes First Grants

In early 2022, the Community Foundation received a bequest that will forever impact our Region’s natural  landscape and habitat.

Nearly a decade before, Joan and Peter Weill included the Foundation in their estate plan, leaving the
remainder of their estate to create an endowment fund to forever support land conservation and protect
our wildlife.

The Weill Endowed Fund is now a permanent part of the Community Foundation’s Community Impact family of funds, and one of the very few discretionary funds with an environmental focus, making it especially important to preserve our natural treasures.

In early 2023, the Weill Endowed Fund distributed its first grants, awarding $72k to support: Eden’s Rose Foundation, the Grassland Bird Trust, Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy, Pine Hollow Arboretum, Rensselaer Plateau Alliance, Saratoga PLAN and Yaddo.

“Every day is a blessing with love at your side. For love warms the heart and makes life worth the ride. So, rejoice with me! We’ve been blessed, we two. Let us enjoy it day by day until our last adieu.” —An excerpt from the poem Grace, by Joan Weill
