Yesterday was a single ray of hope. No words are adequate to describe the mingled grief and momentary relief of accountability. We would rather have George Floyd alive, holding his family. He represents millions we know. The larger questions loom: will we create a more just union for our Black and Brown friends? Will the horrors ever cease? And will we create something new—that wraps people in safety and justice and belonging? May the accountabilities multiply—and may our hearts, minds, and institutions transform to create communities where every Black and Brown woman, man, and child knows an abundance of dignity and power, love and opportunity, safety and joy.
